BOWLING HAMMOND WILKERSON was an educator and was county superintendent of education of Lamar County, Alabama, and lived in Vernon, Alabama.He was reared in Marion County, Alabama and was carefully educated in early youth, having for instructors many men who later became prominent in the affairs of the State; among them were D. L. Carter, Thomas Young and Professor 0. R. Hood.
He graduated from Vernon Institute with the highest honors of his class in 1890, he has since then been almost continuously connected with educational interests, either as instructor or supervisor, in the. public schools and colleges of his native state and those of Texas and Mississippi.
In 1880 he first received the suffrage in his home county as coroner serving one term.In 1886 he was elected county superintendent of education, serving six terms.
He was a Jacksonian Democrat in politics and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South and Affiliates with two of the oldest fraternal societies, the Masons and Odd Fellows, being secretary of Lodge No. 389 in the former and a Past Grand in the latter.
