Ralph Eugene Oiler, 77, Vinton, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at his residence.
Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Vinton, son of the late Walter and Sally Boggs Oiler, he was a retired milkman for the Spring Hill, Guyan and Valley Bell companies, with 20 years of service.
He had also been employed by French City Meats Co. for 10 years.
He was a member of Clark Chapel Church, where he served as superintendent and trustee. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a life member of VFW Post 4464 in Gallipolis, a member of Vinton American Legion Post 161, where he was assistant chaplain, DAV Chapter 53 and Gallia County Senior Citizens.
He was also preceded in death on Sept. 6, 1991, by his wife, Elsie Mae Petrie Oiler, whom he married Aug. 29, 1945; four grandchildren; and a brother, William Oiler.
Surviving are eight children, LaDonna (Arnold) Pope of Newark, Keith (Gloria) Oiler of Langsville, Lenni (Keith) Lemley of Holiday, Fla., Jeff (Joyce) Oiler, Jennell Oiler and Jennett “Tweet” (Doug) Ousley, all of Vinton, Josephine (Tony) Pineyro of Greensboro, N.C., and Randy (Teresa) Oiler of Waverly; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wendell (Juanita) Oiler and Harold (Judy) Oiler, both of Zanesville, Lawrence (Ann) Oiler of Columbus, and Charles Oiler; and two sisters, Mildred Rice of Gallipolis, and Emma (Sterling) Tackett of Sunbury.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Vinton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jake Fry and the Rev. Steve Rollins officiating. Burial will be in Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by Vinton American Legion Post 161.
