I, John Geyer, of the County of Shenandoah and State of Virginia, do make this my last will and testament, as follows, to Wit:
First, I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and satisfied by my Executors out of my personal estste as soon as may be after my decease.
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Madaline, during her natural life or widowhood, all my estate both real and personal except as much as may be necessary for the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses and cost of administration, and if necessary for those purposes my executors shall sell as much of my personal property as will be so required, selling such of it as can be most conveniently spared by my wife. But should my wife intermarry again then she shall only have one-half of my personal estate and one full third of my real estate during her natural life the other half of my peronal estate shall then be sold by my executors in such manner and on such credit as they may think most advisable and the money arising therefrom to be distributed as here after mentioned. And further I do hereby will and direct that my wife pay to my brother David Geyer during her widowhood out of the rents & profits of the estate herein before bequeathed to her, the sum of fifty dollars in specie annually if reminded of her by him or by his authority during his lifetime.
Thirdly, It is my will and xxxx I do hereby direct that after the death or intermarriage of my said wife that my real estate with such part of the personal estate, in case of her death, as shall be forthcoming shall be sold by my Executors in such manner and on such credit as they may think most advantageous to my leqsetees ???? hereafter mentioned and as it regards the sale of the real estate my said Executors if they think proper may call upon two or more suitable & fit persons to value the remaining part thereof but in case of my wifes marrying again then they are only to sell the the two thirds of the real estate on the happening thereof and the money arising from such sale or sales upon either of the counts above mentioned taking place is to be disposed of as hereafter directed.
Fourthly, I will and direct that my Executors out of the money arising from the sales of the estate as above directed put out one thousand dollars to interest as soon as convenient and collect such interest in specie annually & pay the same to my brother David Geyer during his natural life, but if he fails to call on the Executors annually as the interest is collected then they shall not be liable to pay any interest thereon prior to a demand for the amount then due.
Fifthly, I give and bequeath unto my nephew John Geyer, son of my brother Jacob, the sum of one thousand dollars to be paid to him by my executors out of the money arising from the sales of the property above directed to be sold which is all he shall receive out of my estate.
Sixthly, I do hereby will and direct that the residue of my estate arising from the sales of my estate as before stated and not herein before divised & disposed of, shall be equally divided amongst my nephews and neices the children of my brothers Jacob, George, Henry & Andrew and my sisters Elizabeth, Catharine and Gertrout, except my nephew John Geyer, son of my brother jacob to whom I have before willed his share and the one thousand dollars herein directed to be let out at interest, after the death of my brother David Geyer is to be divided amongst my said nephews & neices (except John son of Jacob) in the same manner as in this clause mentioned as to the residue -- but if any of said nephews & neices should be dead leaving lawful spue such spue shall have the portion of their father or mother to be equally divided amongst them.
And Lastly, I do hereby appoint my son, Philip Williams Jr & Abraham Geyer (son of John Geyer) Executors of this my last will and testament, ratifying & comfirming this and no other to be my last will &
testament revoking all others by me hereto fore made. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this seventeenth day of July in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine.
