History of the Boleyn's of Elgin
Our earliest known ancestor, Aaron I, sailed across the Atlantic from Coloraine, Ireland to the Province of New Jersey in about 1732.It is said that he landed at Perth Amboy and settled near Long Hill. His date of birth is placed conjecturally between 1710 and 1716.He came from Coloraine with his brother, James. It is said that James and Aaron I were orphaned young children and left under the gaurdianship of their uncle. This uncle treated them unkindly so they ran away, hid on a ship, and came to America as stowaways.
Aaron I settled in Baskins Ridge, New Jersey and married Catherine Parkinson {the widow of Roger Shillton} there in about 1741 or 1742.Aaron had four children that have been identified in the family histories: James, John, Aaron Jr., and Ann.
James was a well-known and well-to-dophysician in Baskings Ridge. He and his wife, Ann Dunlop, had ten children: Samuel, Robert, John, Aaron, Henry, Catherine, James, Joseph, Benjamin and Jacob.James and Ann are said to have been buried in Baskings Ridge church yard.
The second son of Aaron I, John married Eleanor Hodge and had fifteen children: Samuel, John, Abraham, William, Eliza, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Lysia, Margaret, Catherine, a daughter [name unknown], Ann, and Eleanor.
The third son of John, William, moved to North Carolina and became a well-known publisher and businessman. There is a great deal of information written about William.
The first two sons of Aaron I both have long lines of descendents, all bearing the name with the spelling of Boylan.
