My Family and Other Animals - The Beavers of Oakham:Information about John Greensmith
John Greensmith (d. Dec 10, 1936)

A widower at the time he married Sarah, he was a shepherd from Cornwall. Having arrived in Australia in 1891, he and Sarah evidently separated, for there is no record of their divorce. He apparently took their youngest child, Edith, with him. It was initially thought that John died at Hughenden, 110km east of Richmond, bin 1893, but he actually died at Charters Towers in 1936. After separating from Sarah he lived with a woman by the name of Clara Marsland, who he called his wife, although there is no record of their marriage. However, he and Clara had three children, Sarah Jane (b 1895), Robert Henry (bc 1897) and John David (bc 1899).
