Welcome to "My Family and Other Animals", the story of the Beaver family of Oakham, in the county of Rutland, England.
The story begins in the year 1599 and with our earliest known ancestor, John Beaver of Oakham. The family has inevitably spread far and wide since then, but I have endeavoured to establish what became of his descendants right up to the present day (2006).
However, as always with family history and genealogy, the story is rarely, if ever, complete, and the Beaver family is no different. Nevertheless, I hope you will agree that I haven't done too badly under the circumstances!
If I have made any mistakes or omissions, or if there are those of you out there who believe that you are descended from this family, then please do not hesitate to contact me and put me right.
Naturally, I wouldn't have been able to have carried out this fascinating and historically valuable mission without the kindness, assistance and enthusiasm of a whole myriad of wonderful individuals.
There are too many of you to mention here, but you know who you are, and to each and every one of you I offer my heartfelt thanks. Bless you all. This is for you.
Shane Beaver, Derbyshire , July 2006
