Notes for Emanuel Dees II:
In 1730 Emanuel II was deed land in Bertie County, North Carolina, the part that later became Edgecombe.He sold some of it to his brother, John, in 1734.The rest was sold around 1840, and he probably moved to Johnson County, North Carolina at this time.
His will was dated January 20, 1770 and probated at the November Court 1770.Part of it will reads.....
I lend the manor house and half the orchard and clear ground to my well beloved wife, Elizabeth, during her lifetime.
I give and bequeath to my loving Daniel, my plantation and all my land.
I give and bequeath to my well beloved son, Dorsey, two pounds.
I give and bequeath to my loving son Dewitt Dees, forty shillings.
I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, Hanna Benton ten shillings.
I give and bequeath to my loving daughter Priscilla Hatcher, ten shillings.

Notes for Alice Needham: A tradition current among many of Alice Needham Bryan descendants is that he was a staunch Roundhead, a Puritan of Puritans, and she was a proud Cavalier.Their wedding was frowned upon by both families.They came in 1689 to Isle of Wight County, Virginia, eventually settling in 1722 on a farm on Albemarle Sound in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, where William is buried. |
