In 1928, Lizzie Frank wrote me and said that she had been teaching Sunday School for a class of young women in Danville for almost 28 years.She said one of her first recollections was that of listening to Uncle John playing the violin (re: John Waller Boatwright, father of RGB).
She said that soon after the death of her mother, she and her sister, Mattie, were sent to a boarding school while they were still quite young.They remained there until graduation.She said that because of this separation, she knew very little about her mother's family.
The "Old Paint Lick Church"was organized in 1783 and is now a remodeled brick structure.It is situated about three miles west of Paint Lick, KY and still has an active congregation. Some of the pulpit furnishings are from the old original building and are still in use.
I (RGB) am quite certain that my parents, John W. Boatwright and Louisa Frances Wylie, were married in this church as they were members of the church at the time of their marriage, February 8, 1866.At that time, community lifecentered around this church.

Rodney Smith Boatwright was a farmer for several years before he became District Manager for a local telephone company at Lone Elm, Kansas.He held that position for several years.He was a Methodist, a Democrat, an Odd Fellow and also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
2.Additional family information provided by Gerald Martin Boatwright.
3.Rodney applied to the DAWES Commission in 1896 for Citizenship in the Cherokee Nation.In the application, he claimed to be Cherokee Indian based on the fact that his gg-grandparents, James & Rhoda Blackburn "were Cherokee Indians".He signed application with no 'w' in his name.
