--Addendum by Dennis G. Boatright:
Glenn worked with his fatherin the insurance business for a while before going to work for Shell Oil in Arkansas City, KS in 1935.That refinerywas closed down in 1938 and Glenn was given an opportunity to transfer to New York City or Houston, TX ( theDeer Park Refinery). He said that he knew nothing about Houston, but he knew he didn't want to go to New York.He went, alone, to Texas leaving Opal and 1st son, Dennis, in Kansas while he found a place to live.
He soon found a place to live in Pasadena, TX (a garage apartment). They lived there a short while until theywere able to move to a small rent house on Wafer Street.Daughter, Bonnie Louise, was born while they were living there June 20, 1939.
By the summer of1940, it was apparent that a larger house was going to be needed. They found another rent house on Shaver street out on the edge of town. This place was a "fixer-upper" and Glenn spent considerable time reworking electrical wiring and plumbing before it was suitable to occupy. They moved to the Shaver street house in the fall of 1940 and 2nd son, Gary Keith, was born in April 11, 1941.
Soon after moving to Pasadena, TX, Glenn and Opal joined a small group of people to establish a church congregation. The group had been formed in 1936 as a mission of the Central Park Presbyterian Church of Houston. They were members when it was chartered as the 1st Presbyterian Church of Pasadena in 1941.The Church continued to be the center of their lives until their deaths.
After retiring from Shell Oil in 1975, Glenn worked almost daily at the church as a general care-taker and maintainer. He was a Deacon and, later, Elder in the church and served as Treasurer on a couple of occasions.Opal participated regularly in Women's organizations and was a Sunday School teacherwhenthe children were younger.
Glenn was a member of the Pasadena Masonic Lodge actively participating during the 1940's and 50's.Opal was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter and joined the DAR based on her lineage through the Ingham family (re: #606569).
Glenn and Opal lived in the Shaver street house until 1947 (throughout the WW II years) when they purchased their first home in a subdivision being developed to the south-east of town on Harrop street. They moved to their last home on Azalea CT. in Sunset Terrace, Pasadena, in 1952.They saw the little village of Pasadena grow from about 1000 population to over120,000 in the 1990's.

2. Opal and Helenwere very close to both their maternal and paternal grandmothers, Eldora (Hasty) Story and Sarah Helen (Ingham) Heuston.Helen remembers seeing her great-grandmother, Alathea (Dean) Hasty (Eldora's mother) in Agra, OKbut she was not well.Alathea was placed in a nursing home shortly before her death after whichher husband, Tom Hasty, returned to Keokuk,Iowa to live with a daughter, Martha (Hasty) Scott.
When she graduated from High School, Opal attended a business college where she learned shorthand and typing. She worked for a shorttime for her uncle, Emmett Heuston, at his automotive business in Cushing.
In the early 1930's Opal became very ill and eventually it was found that she had a serious kidney malfunction. She was taken to Boulder, Colorado by her uncle, Dr. Howard Heuston where he removed the kidney which was said to have been atrophied. While she was recuperating, Glenn drove to Boulder to visit her.He took Lula, Opal's stepmother, with him.
In 1932, Opal's sister, Helen, and her husband, Donald Hubbell, moved to Fayetteville, Arkansasfrom Ames, Iowa where he received his Ph.D. Opal visited them for a while in Fayetteville and typed atechnical book that Don was translating from Portuguese.Again, Glenn visited Opal in Arkansas.
They were married in the fall of 1933.
The following is an excerpt from a letter written by Sara Helen Heuston, Opal's paternal grandmother. In it, Sarah is telling about quilts being made by Opal's maternal grandmother (Eldora Story):
".......She said Opal ) wanted her to put one in for her.She asked her when she would need (it). She said in Sept. may be.She (Opal)has a fine diamond ring.Lula said Glenn paid D. A. (Dennie Heuston) $50.00 at one time and $50.00 another time. She told Harlan they wanted to save $500 before they got married, but I don’t see how they are going to do it the way he spends his money. They are out every night to a picture show or some thing to take his cash...."
