John (engineer) enlisted 27 Apr 1861 in Duplin Co, NC - ; Elected 28 Apr 1862 to 2nd Lt; appointed Adjutant Oct 1862 and transferred to staff. Captured 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville, VA. Confined Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC. Paroled 18 May 1863 and exchanged; promoted 25 Oct 1863 to Captain and transferred to Company D. Wounded 12 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA. Assigned command Company K for Sept and Oct 1864. Captured 25 Mar 1865 at Fort Stedman, VA. Confined Old Capitol (in DC) and Fort Delaware. Released 8 Jun 1865 by oath.
