24:104 RETROCESSION, January 24, 1809. Louis George Desmaret exchanged some land with Denis Carlin.The land which Desmaret exchanged was 15 arpents wide x 40 arpents deep on both banks of Bayou Teche in the place calle Petite Isle aux Vaches.The act of exchange was passed before Casa y Luego on November 8, 1792.the land which Desmaret exchanged was held by him by virture of a grant from Estevan Miro, dated July 20, 1786. After that time, Desmaret discovered that the land he had exchanged had in fact been granted to Joseph de Valiere on January 15, 1783, as part of a grant of 40 arpents wide on both sides of the Teche.Desmaret therefore disclaimed any right to the 15 arpents exchanged, stating that Denis, Honore, and Celestin Carlin would have to deal with Joseph de Valiere for the land.The Carlins in turn declared that they regarded the exchange of 1792 to be nul and void.
24:105 LAND SALE, January 25, 1809.Honore Carlin sold to Denis Carlin a tract of land 1 arpent wide on both banks of the Teche, being part of the 8 arpent width owned by Honore and bordering the property of Denis on the lower side.The 1 arpent width old was nearest Denis' property line. Price $40.In addition, Honore exchanged with Denis another 1 arpent tract of land, next above-mentioned tract, for acre of Denis' land. 26:32 Confirmation of Land Sale, February 9, 1811.Jean-Baptiste Bonin, the sole heir of the late Antoine Bonin, sold to the heirs of the late Joseph Carlin, namely, Denis. Celestin, Honore, Alexis, Eugene, and Dorothe Carlin, represented here by Celestin, Honore and Alexis Carlin, a tract of land fronting 10 arpents wide on both sides of the Isle des Cannes, being a tract of land granted by the Spanish government to the late Antoine Bonin and by him sold to Joseph Carlin at private sale. On 17 June 1811, a certificate was issued to Denis Carlin.Claim was founded on a complete Spanish grant in favor of Joseph Valliere. (Valentine King dates the grant as 18 January 1783) on both sides of the Teche, 1,200 arpents.
On 18 October 1814 a survey of 215.43 acres in section 65, township 15 South, Range 10 East was founded on an incomplete land grant.
In the Southwest District Claims, Volume 18, piece of evidence no. 1 says a survey of tract was completed by William Johnson and found to contain 710.73 superficial acres.Plat shows amount of land devoted to sugarcane.
On ? June 1837, Southwest Distract Land Claims, piece of evidence no. 5, says a survey of tract completed by A. L. Fields.Tract was found to by 740 superficial acres.
The "Old Board" of Land Commissioners, 1805-1813 lists claim no. 2192 classified as an incomplete grant for 531.97 acres.The claim is referred to on the plat map and is mentioned in American State Papers, Volume II, page 869.
On 13 September 1813 certificate was issued to Denis Carlin. According to the Southwest District Claims, Volume 18, piece of evidence no. 1, the claim was founded on settlement and occupancy by Jupiter (FMC).Land is on the Teche.840 superficial arpents.
Note:Eugene and Honore, Denis' brothers also have claims in this area.
In 1809, Honore and Dennis Carlin exchanged pieces of property located in Franklin, Louisiana.

St. Mary Coveyances, 1811-1818, No. 634 Donation, October 31, 1818. Denis Carlin and his wife, Susan Labatre, donated to their son, Ursin Carlin, a tract of land located on the east side of Bayou Teche, measuring 3 x 40 arpents, bounded below by Francois Senequar and above by Denis Carlin.The value of the land would be deducted from Ursin's inheritance from his father and mother.Land Records of the Attakapas District.By:Glenn R.
