B. Buckner. Captured at the surrender of Ft. Donelson, he was a prisoner eight months at Camp Douglas near Chicago, and upon his release, served for the remainder of the war in the Army of Tennessee. ^He then published a newspaper at Aberdeen 18 months, and during this time he eloped with Miss Mary Boyle, also of Aberdeen, being married June 19, 1866, at Houston, Miss., Mr. Boyd operated a paper there until coming to Texas in 1868. ^Settling in Paris late that year and going to work on The Paris Press for W. H. Lewis, he soon quit to establish his own weekly, The Examiner, which was later discontinued, and in 1874, he bought The North Texas, which had been owned by his brother, A. H. (Harvey) Boyd, who had come to Paris also. In 1887, A. P. Boyd acquired The Paris News, established as a daily two years earlier which continues today as a daily publication. ^Captain Boyd as he was called, was a Mason and Knight Templar, the latter conducting his burial service, and also belonged to the Odd Fellows. He was a fearless, outspoken editor, who made his paper an outstanding one in his day, the only one to continue here as a daily publication. His son, Sayers Boyd, succeeded him until 1920, as owner and publisher.'
