Hello, Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Carey H. Bracewell of Austin, Texas. My interest in genealogy began in 1958 when a cousin showed me an old family Bible containing a brief inscription by a Richard Brazil who wrote that he was 'Borne in the yeare of our Lord 1759.' Since neither me nor my cousin had any idea who this supposed ancestor was, that musty old Bible so piqued my interest in genealogy that it'sstill just as keen now nearly half a century later. As a history major at the University of Texas at the time, I enjoyed delving into the social and local history of my ancestors along with the thrill of the chase in learning their identities.Like all other family historians of the time, I began my research with a family group sheet, pencil, legal pad, and a state map to find the courthouses and libraries I needed to visit.Practically everything was done by on site research and snailmail correspondance. How muxh easier is our 'bone-digging' now! Since getting started I have published a number of papers and periodicals on the Braswell family {In 1973 had my surname legally corrected back to 'Bracewell', the original English spelling.}I have also published "The Braswell Quarterly", served as Braswell Editor for Taney Brazeal's periodical,"Brazeale Notes", administrator for the Braswell List on Rootsweb for 2000-2007,and since 2003 have been the chief administrator of the Braswell DNA Project at FamliyTreeDNA, Houston. But my main legacy to my fellow researchers and my descendants alike will be a work now in progress to be entitled "David Bracewell's Ancestors." | |
