Notes for WILLIAM ATTERBERRY:
Family tradition has it that William married Bridget Murray. Reason:
William Murray was executor of William Atterberry's will and the fact that there were 3 grandsons named Zephaniah, one of them being Zephaniah Murray Atterberry.

Children of WILLIAM ATTERBERRY and BRIDGET MURRAY are:
13. | i. | THOMAS3 ATTERBERRY, b. Bet. 1770 - 1775, VA; d. 1836, Barren CO. KY. | |
ii. | WILLIAM ATTERBERRY, b. Bet. 1770 - 1775, VA; d. Bet. 1846 - 1847, MO; m. CHARITY; b. Abt. 1772, SC; d. Unknown. |
Notes for WILLIAM ATTERBERRY: William's will was probated 1847, Monroe County, MO. He left his estate to his wife Charity. There were no children mentioned other than his "natural and adopted son" Greenberry Atterberry who is to receive the estate upon the death of wife Charity. Greenberry was his nephew who was raised by William. The 1850 Monroe CO. MO Census shows Charity Atterberry, age 78, born SC, residing in the home of Nathan Atterberry, age 30, her nephew and son of Elijah and Mary Atterberry. |
iii. | JAMES ATTERBERRY, b. Abt. 1775; d. Unknown. |
Notes for JAMES ATTERBERRY: James is said to have died in 1796 in Chester CO. SC, but may have died in MO. He may have married Mary "Molly" Hill, sister of Sarah Hill who marrid John Atterberry, the brother of James. There is no proof that James was a son of William and Bridget except for a biography of Greenberry Atterberry in the "Encyclopedia of Missouri History", published in 1901, almost 40 years after Greenberry's death in 1862. This history states that Greenberry was born 1799 in SC. In 1803 he was taken by his family to KY where he lived until 1817. In that year he came to MO. His father is stated to be James Atterberry. (NOTE:If Greenberry was raised by William and Charity lived with her nephew Nathan Atterberry, then evidence points to this James being Greenberry's father. However, some have accepted the theory that Greenberry was the son James and Dorcas Atterberry. |
