David lived in Sugar Fork, Upshure Co., WV & is found in the 1860 census with his wife.David was born in that part of Monongalia Co., VA that is now part of Green Co., PA.
David was one of the original trustee of Mt. Lebanon Church near Buckhannon, Upshur Co., WV.In the family bible owned by David J. CASTO, was written the following: The funeral of David J. CASTO was preached from the forty ninth chapter and thirty third verse of the Book of Genesis by Rev. E. BENNETT on the 5 day of November 1865.David and his son, Washington, were witnesses to a land purchase by Nelson ROBINSON in Aug 1835 in Lewis Co., (W)V.David bought his father's farm when John CASTO, Sr. moved to Jackson Co., WV.David stayed on the Sugar Camp Run of Turkey Run next door to his Uncle David CASTO's farm.1860 Upshur Co., WV census lists David and Sarah.1880 Upshur Co., WV census shows Sarah living with son, Job.

Mrs. Snarr has traced the West Virginia Castos, Regers, and Marples, and compiled a manuscript of approximately 200 pages on these families and allied lines who settled in present Barbour; Harrison, Lewis, Monongalia, Randolph and Upshur counties.Of interest to many West Virginians, the manuscript is available on microfilm in the West Virginia Collection of the University Library.
The Casto line is traced from David J. (1780-1865, who is buried in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery near Buckhannon.Chiseled on his headstone are the lines:
Though he sleeps--his memory doeth live
and cheering comfort to his mourners give.
he followed virtue as his truest guide,
Lived as a Christian, and as a Christian died.
David married Rachel (?) Westfall in 1800 and Sarah Ward in 1823.The descendants of the 17 offspring of these two marriages are traced through 1954.
