Married Mary Loftus, daughter of Adam Loftus, D.D., of Trinity College, Cambridge, England, who was the second son of Edward Loftus, of Swineshead, County York, England, who settled in Ireland in the sixteenth century, where he obtained extensive grants of forfeited land from Queen Elizabeth and King James. Adam Loftus was chaplain to Queen Elizabeth and was made Archbishop of Armagh [Primate of Ireland] in 1563 and Lord Chancellor of Ireland in 1578.
Charles Cosby was induced to settle in Virginia through his connection with the Zouches and he emigrated to York County, VA. in 1628, with his infant son, John Cosby.

From THE COSBY FAMILY by Cosby and Carpenter: 'Charles Cosby, third son of Alexander Cosby and his wife Dorcus Sidney of Stradbally Hall, Ireland, the founder of the Cosby Family in Virginia, was born Sep. 12, 1585. He married Miss Mary Loftus.
'Charles Cosby, married, in 1623, Mary Loftus, daughter Adam Loftus. She died Nov. 23, 1623, leaving an infant son, John, whom Charles named for two of his brothers, who died young. His first brother, John, was born in 1574; his second brother, John, was born in 1589. About 1628, Charles Cosby came to Virginia and seettled on land granted to his step-brother, Sir John Zouche; on land that was either in what is now York or Warwick Co., VA. The first land granted to Sir John Zouche was granted in 1623, the year John Cosby, [son of Charles and Mary Loftus-Cosby] was born.
'In 1632, Sir John Zouche was appointed by the Crown, one of the 23 Commissioners to inquire into the condition of the Colony, which he first visited in 1632. He made a second visit in 1634 and took part in deposing Sir John Harvey and returned with him to England in 1635, and died.'
