Notes for Aagot Marie Knudsen:Aagot attended "Latinartium" at Kristiansand's Cathedral School, then took the examination at Kristiansand's Teacher's College and was a teacher in Mysen.She emigrated to America around 1929 to join her mother in Seattle.She trained to be a nurse at The Swedish Hospital in Seattle and later managed a health center at an agricultural college for Indians in Oklahoma.As a pensioner she moved back to Seattle where she married L. Roy Brumfield.Roy's family looked after her after Roy died.Bergluiot Lange describes Aagot as being like a younger sister to Bergliot's mother, Alfhild.Aagot visited the Langes many times from America.The children called he 'Anti Goth,' or 'Auntie Goodies,' as she always brought lots of presents with her.In America, Aagot may have used the name "Knutsen" instead of Knudsen.
Ole Gottlieb Nilsen's son Ralph Nelson's wife Betty Nelson remembers Aagot Knudsen visiting Ole Gottlieb Nilsen and his family in New York in the 1940's on her way back to Norway.At the time she appeared to be "in her forties and had dark hair pulled back in a bun."Aagot Knudsen sent Ole Gottlieb Nilsen at least two postcards, which read:
26 June 1942.Seattle, Washington.Here is where I spend my time this year trying to improve my mind.It is cold and rainy, good weather to stay in and study in. Will send you a letter later when I have a minute.
