According to family members and community residents, Luke Spruiell was the father of Benjamin and Robert T. Duncan.Julia Ann Duncan gave the boys her last name, then married Thomas Isaac Stanford.Older family members recall that Luke Spruiell did not go to war during the Civil War, but remained in Alabama while all the other able-bodied men left to fight.

Spruiell and family.Listed with Luke (age 56 b. AL)and Addie (age 30 b. AL) are Lawson (17), Haiston (15), Lillie (9), Aurther (6), Daisy (4) and Lonny or Lorry or Loanie (daughter, 2).
