We have documented the history of our family back to about 1513!Of special note is a day in 1813 in Frederickstown, Maryland when MARTIN BUSER (a native of Rumlingen, Baseland, Switzerland) appeared in open court requesting to become a citzen of the United States.
Martin had been in the country for ten years and it is probable that he didn't speak english very well or he had a heavy accent. For whatever reason, the court clerk mis-spelled his surname, he wrote MARTIN BUSSEAR.
This is not a surname found anywhere in the world! Anyone with this unique mis-spelling is a direct descendant of Martin Buser!
On May 13, 1815, he married Sarah Calahan (Callahan?) in northern Virginia. They had been introduced by a man named JOEL WARD.
Martin had fought in the War of 1812 in the Virginia militia under a Captain Newkirk, he was awarded Indian Bounty Land in the West.Bounty Land was land that had been taken from the Indians after their forceful removal!
His land was located about 20 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Ohio at a place called Paddy's Run which is now called Shandon, Butler County, Ohio.
The couple, along with their first son James Madison, left northern Virginia and traveled over the Allegheny Mountains to the Ohio River. Once there, they boarded a river craft and floated down river to Cincinati. Providence would bless them with ten children!
