Velkommen til min hjemmeside! [For an interim this will be "a website under construction" as it may take me a minute or two to figure out how to put the site together to my satisfaction. Please bear with me.] With the exception of my mormor and her ancestors, all of my folks came from the small island of Samsø, Denmark--some are still there or in other unknown parts of Denmark. The earliest known of my ancestors were found in the Kolby area of Samsø until about 1800 when the families suddenly began to appear in the Onsbjerg and Tanderup areas of Samsø. But, of course with Samsø being so small, some ancestors easily gravitated into the family from other parishes such as Pillemark, Besser, Toftebjerg. Thirteen of my ancestors, including my father-Lauritz Peder Bager-emigrated to the USA or Canada. I have documented records for eight of them. Those who did immigrate didn't find a land of "milk and honey" as some were promised. But they brought with them their knowledge of working the land; and with hard work, persistence, and faith, they managed to settle, live and enjoy life, while raising first through fourth and fifth generation Americans who are proud to call themselves Danish-American. As you will see, this site is full of some of the most common Danish surnames. I hope you will take a look at those names, and if any draw your attention, please contact me. I am willing to share any information I have.
