More About William McNabb and Widow Martha Bennett:
Marriage: March 19, 1749/50, Augusta City., Virginia.
William MacNab was our immigrant ancestor from Glendorchart County Perth,
Scotland. He had married Betty Aiken and they had five children but
Betty had passed away in Scotland leaving William with the problems and
the futures of the children in his hands. Their futures were very dim so
he chose to leave his homeland where he was born in 1702.
History states that many of these Scotch-Irish settlers arrived more or
less direct from Ireland, through Pennsylvania into the Shenandoah
Valley. William and his sons are found in the Shenandoah Valley of
Virginia about 1740.
Around 19 Mar. 1750 William married his second wife, Martha Bennett,
widow of Richard Bennett who had died in 1743. It has been said that
Martha and William had three sons, William, David and Andrew. Shortly
before the death of Richard Bennett he had bought acres in Beverly
Manors, Augusta County, but died before getting a deed. In May of 1760
court records for that county show, Benjamin, the son and heir of Richard
Bennett, in suit with William MacNab over the land which William had put
in the possession of two of his sons, Samuel and James. William lived
approximately 48 years after arriving in America, long enough to see the
better life he had hoped for. William sold his land in Augusta County VA
and moved to the new frontier of the Watauga Settlement around the year
1774 along with his sons, Baptist and John and their families. This
frontier later became Washington County, North Carolina where William
died in 1799.
