He was a surveyor of highways in Middlesex Co. and a constable for many years including 1711 in Piscataway, N.J..Per Dennis Sutton he was a member of Col. Thomas Farmers N. J. Militia Regt. 4th Co. of Piscataway in 1715.Removing from Piscataway, he settled at Passaic Valley, in Morris County, New Jersey, four to five miles from Basking Ridge, in Somerset County.He was the first son of William to leave the Quaker faith.After the death of his wife in 1731 he is presumed to have moved to the Scotch Plains area.On 31Dec1741 he sold land in Piscataway to Benjamin Dunn and bought land in Harrison's Neck NJ.His will was written 17 Dec 1746 and probated 20 Dec 1750.It mentions all his children but Sarah.It mentions a wife but doesn't name her.It can't be Elizabeth because she died in 1731.
