9.Catoneras Princess4 Wyandice (Grand Sachem3 Wyandanch, Chief Long2 Mongotucksee, Sowheag1) was born 1603 in Montauk Tribe, Livingston, NY, USA, and died 1700 in Long Island, NY, USA.She married Cornelius Jansen Van Texel 1635 in Eiders Neck, Livingston, NY, USA.He was born 1600 in Isle Texel, Off North Coast, Holland, and died 1684 in Long Isalnd, NY, USA.
Notes for Catoneras Princess Wyandice:
She was one of the fourteen Indian women taken into captivity by Ninigret, Chief of the Narragansetts and afterwards ransomed through the good offices of Lion Gardiner. Catoneras, daughter of Wyandanceh (the Sachem or Chief) of the tribe of Indians which then lived on-claimed the ownership of that portion of Long Island- situated along the North Shore-or sound-about Eatons Neck in Suffolk County
Notes for Cornelius Jansen Van Texel:
Arriven in America 1609-1624. When he came to the New Netherlands he went to Long Island, where he resided, so far as known the rest of his life. He was selected to represent the Long Island Indians before Commissioners appointed to settle the wars between the Peqots, Narragansetts and other tribe and was present at meetings of the Commissioners held at Boston and elsewhere. No record has been found as to the date of decease or place of burial
