Note:xerox pages from "Riverboy - Life along the St. John by J.K. Chapman, Brunswick Press, Fredericton, N.B., 1980, states the following:"I do not know whether Gabe, who was head of the family, and his brother, Dudley, had ever worked, or whether they and Gabe's wife and sister had always lived on the income from investments. They owned the large Victorian Gothic house, in recent years known as The Manor, beyond the upper end of the front street.They attended the Anglican Church regularly, where they occupied the second pew from the front.Otherwise the village saw little of them except for Gabe's very occasional and brief figure-skating exhibitions, when the ice on the creek was right, and for Dudley's exercising his driving horse on the snow-covered streets. I cannot remember having seen either Gabe's wife or sister.The former painted excellent watercolours, did fine needlepoint, and bossed the servants, while the latter, a timid creature, bestirred herself into activity only on the approach of a thunderstorm...."
