114.Joseph McMINN, born ca 1782 in SC; died ca Mar 1850 in Hall Co, GA.He was the son of 228. Robert McMINN and 229. Jane KUYKENDALL.He married 115. Elizabeth WARREN Jan 29, 1832 in Hall Co GA.
115.Elizabeth WARREN, born ca 1811 in Hall Co, GA; died Aft. 1880 in Hall Co, GA.She was the daughter of 230. Robert WARREN and 231. Elizabeth.
Notes for Joseph McMINN:
Joseph and his oldest daughter, Martha, seem to have married brother and sister.Joseph was in Hall County, GA by 1830, with a family consisting of one male between 40 and 50 and one female (daughter Martha mentioned in his will?) to age five. He signed his will on October 30, 1849; it was probated May 8, 1850.The executors of his estate were his wife Elizabeth and her brother Robert M. Warren. His estate included two tracts of land, one containing 140 acres and the other, known as the Warran tract, containing 50 acres on the Mulberry, as well as farming utensils, cattle, hogs, crops, furniture, notes and ready money.Joseph was literate, no small feat during his age and place.
Elizabeth lived at least 30 years a widow, most of them with daughter Caroline Jane and her husband Robert Hall. The 1850 census reports that Elizabeth is a widow with property worth $200.In 1860 Caroline and Robert were in neighboring Gwinnett County, and Elizabeth lived with her mother and brother Robert. She was back with the Halls in 1870 and 1880.
Joseph has confounded researchers because of seeming uncertainty about how to spell his name. His will says it is "The last will of testament of Joseph McMinn" but he signed it "Joseph McMeen."The 1850 Mortality Record for Hall County reports that an "Elizabeth Mackmeen" had died in March. The record warns that the census taker was sometimes uncertain about age.My guess is that he was also uncertain about who had died and that "Elizabeth Mackmeen" deceased was actually Elizabeth McMinn who was reporting the death of her husband Joseph McMinn.Elizabeth and both of Joseph's daughters used the name McMinn.
On the basis of the mortality record, I had guessed that Joseph's death date was March, 1850.A McMinn researcher reports it as March 8, 1850.I don't know the source.
