Notes for Sarah Burke:
Born around 1815 in Ireland(data 1851 census). She was the daughter of John Burke, a general labourer, and Mary Browning. She married Thomas Davidson. Lived in Scotland from at least 1838. At the time of the 1841 census he was living in Chryston in the parish of Cadder with his wife and 3 daughters (Elisabeth 7 born in Ireland, Alexandrina 2(born in Scotland but not Lanarkshire) and Jean 8 months born in Scotland not Lanarkshire).At the time of the 1851 census she was living in Croftshall, Shotts with her husband, 2 sons (Thomas 9 and Bernard 1) and daughter (Elisabeth 16). At the time of the 1861 she was living in Gartsherrie, Old Monkland with her husband, son (Thomas 18), 2 daughters (Elisabeth 26 and Sarah 5) and numerous boarders. At the time of the 1871 census she was living at 29 Castle Street, Paisley with her husband and daughter (Sarah 14). She was widowed in 1879. At the time of the 1881 census she was a visitor in Southfield Cottages, Lesmahagow in the household of Robert McArthur (her son-in-law). At this time her occupation was given as a former housekeeper. She was aged 70 on this census. She died 2.45am on the 7th March 1889 at Auchinheath, Lesmahagow. The cause of death was apoplexy. She was only aged 58 years on the death certificate. (Her age is variable throughout the data).
