I have been researching my family lines for the past thirty years. It's only in the last decade that the computer has come to my aid! There's so much information available out there it's almost as good as a trip to the genealogy section of the library! By the time I had begun my research, an aunt had already amassed quite a bit of information. This gave me a roadmap to follow during my searching. The Mathews came from Great Britain to Virginia. They migrated south, stopping along the way in North Carolina (where my great-great-great grandfather was born) to South Carolina (Edgefield District). They then settled in and around Crawford County, GA, for a time. The PRESTONS were from Ireland. My direct ancestors arrived in America in 1801, first living with relations in Kentucky, then moving south to eventually settle in Crawford County, where the youngest daughter of the Prestons married the eldest son of the Mathews. Members of both family lines migrated westward, settling in Dale Co., AL.This migration began around 1850. So my roots run deep in the south, as do many others.I would be interested in contacting more people from the same areas.
