Doctor William Scott Farris (b. 21 Aug 1877, d. 10 Feb 1972)
Notes for William Scott Farris:Doc Farris, dentist, by age 82, had become a religious zealot, fighting sin in all its forms. He preached anywhere when possible. He won a parole for a convict who converted to Christianity at the state penitentiary.
He married Gertie Lee Jose, January 1, 1900. After marrying Gertie, Doc got his dentistry degree from St. Louis University, ca. 1904, at the time of the World's Fair. Then they moved to Owensville where Beatice and Harry were born. He practiced dentistry for 4-5 years. He then sold his office and returned to Redbird where Leneve and Wesley were born. They farmed and he traveled the countryside in a buggy practicing dentistry.He later moved to Bland and then to Belle. Eugene was born there.In 1913, they traded the Dingley home for a farm in Colorado at Yoder.They homesteaded 360 acres there for 1 year. Then they moved to Truckton where Kenneth was born on Oct.5, 1920. In Colorado it was said that Doc Farris practiced dentistry even though he was not licensed. Hence, they returned to Owensville in 1927 via a Model T driven by Harryand later moved back to Belle.
While in Colorado they were 50 miles from the nearest doctor. Born and raised on the family farm near Redbird, "Doc" was quite a "rounder."After taking on a little wine, he rode his horse through the picnic grounds in Redbird on the 4th of July. He played the fiddle at dances and was quite the guy around town. Ken said Doc hardly ever was home and gave little money to Gertie. Doc, after divorced from Gertie, eventually moved to Coalinga, CA to live with LaNeve and Ted, where he died and is buried.
