William Flood was a prominent polotician in Buckingham County in his day.He represented the county inthe General Assembly of Virginia.He owned the Mill near Davids Creek (later called Osborne's Mill), and kept a storehouse at his residence at Prospect Hill.The old stone house stands there yet, the same building now used by Thomas S. Bocock as his "Book Room".
William Flood was a Captain in the War of 1812.His command was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia.After the war with England in 1812, he returned to Prospect Hill.He is buried in the family cemetery at Red Oak Hill. Captain Flood was captured and was held briefly as a Prisoner of War during the War of 1812.

According to a handwritten account by his grand daughter, Mary Flood Gilliam, John J. Flood was appointed as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas by the Governor of Missouri during the Civil War.John refused to take the oath of alligence to the Union and was consequently arrested as a political prisoner and sent to McDowell College in St. Louis, MO as a prisoner of war.McDowell College was transformed into a POW Camp for Confederate soldiers and political prisoners.According to Mary Flood Gilliam, John Jefferson Flood was taken outside and executed on November 4, 1864.
