When I went to Las Casas Guatemala in 1997 and repaired the Radio Station,I spent several days working in the heat etc. and was really tired and ready to go home. The people at the station was telling me how much they appreciated my coming and I told the missionary that I hoped it was worth it. He said, let me tell you a story about an event that happened a couple of months ago and you decide if it was worth your time and effort.
Las Casas is a small town located in the central part of Guatemala and is populated almost entirely by a Indian group known as The Kekchi. The town is several miles from a ridge of mountains and at this time no one went over the ridge because the gorilla forces had look out posts all along the ridge to watch for the army hunting them. Well one of the men from the town went upon the ridge to gather wood for his cooking(there was only one cook stove in Las Casas), when the gorillas grabbed him.The Chief gorilla asked him where he was from and his name. The man gave him this information and then the chief asked him if he was a Christian and if he had Jesus in his heart,The man was afraid to say he was or he was not so he stalled off. The gorilla chief then said " since you are from Las Casas and thats where Radio Kekchi is We are letting you go.so you go back and listen to Radio Kekchi and you will get Jesus in your heart".
Then the Missonary said to me"Was it worth your time and effort to come down here and fix the radio station?"
