Charles Friend, step-son of Johannes (John) Friend, came to Concocheque Creek about 1732.In 1739 Charles was granted "Swede's Delight," 260 acres, at the mouth of the creek, now Williamsport, Maryland.He was the first permanent settler in Washington County, Maryland.Source - Capt. Nicholas Friend, son of Johannes (John) Friend, was listed in 1734 as a settler "about the great marsh" on Concocheque Creek.Later he moved into Virginia, and in 1761 Lord Fairfax granted him 142 acres about two miles below the mouth of Little Cacapon Creek.This tract was surveyed in 1750 for Nicholas Friend by "Mr. George Washington".Source - Capt.
