Howard Clark Stafford migrated to Mitchell County as well, but in the part that is now known as Avery County, NC.He married Ellen Goforth on 24 May 1876. Howard died while she still had children in the home. She worked hard. She had an amputated leg (I can't remember why). She still rode on horseback to work at the Tarheel Mica Co. in Plumtree. She raised a garden as well, on crutches! Howard and Ellen are both buried near where they lived in the cemetery at Yellow Mountain Baptist Church, located near the Tarheel Mica Co. in Plumtree, Avery County, NC. Their children:
