Harold DaVere Goodlove, son of Winton and Berniece
Goodlove, was born August 13, 1946, near Central City, Iowa.
He died on February 18, 1989, the victim of a farm accident
when a tractor upset on him. He, his father, and a neighbor,
Don Henle, were cutting wood in timberland west of Paris,
Iowa. Harold is buried in the Goodlove family plot at Jordan’s
Grove Cemetery.
Harold DaVere Goodlove and Peggy Lou Jordan, daughter of Earl Leroy and Ethel "Pat" (Powers) Jordan, were married September 18, 1965, also Peggy’s birth date, in 1947. Their children were: Tina Rene, Harold James "Jim", and Laurinda Lynn "Laura".
Tina Rene was born August 4, 1966 and married Patrick Michael Hurt, son of Allen and Mary Cay Hurt, September 27, 1987 at St. Stephen’s Church in Central City.
Harold James was born January 21, 1968 and married Dedee Cloud, June 9, 1990. They are now divorced. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was later discharged with a physical disability caused by an accident.
Laurinda Lynn was born December 14, 1968, and is living in Texas at the present time.
Harold farmed with his father and also worked for Howard Moyer and Pacemaker Company as a carpenter for two or three years. He then started his own carpenter business, "H. Goodbye, Building and Repair", which he operated until his death. He was a 4-H and FFA member during his school years and after his graduation, he was a leader and assistant leader in those organizations. He served on the school board of Central City Community schools and was the president of the board at the time of his death. He enjoyed helping children and young folk. An addition of the school was dedicated to his memory in 1990. A scholarship was established in his memory in 1989 and is awarded each year. His friendly personality earned him many loyal friends. Many examples of his carpentry are found throughout Central City and surrounding areas.
Harold had two portable homemade hog roasters with which he did custom cooking throughout Linn and surrounding counties. He catered many weddings, birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, et cetera with his cookers and crew, known as "Dirty Harry and the Pork Burners." "Dirty Harry" was derived from his CB "handle" which he used when talking to fellow CB users in the evenings and on cold winter days and nights. He had talked to people in New York City and enjoyed many hours visiting with fellow operators.

Notes for HAROLD JAMES GOODLOVE: Subject: AFP: Dili conference on Timor Gap oil Agence France Presse January 16, 2000, Sunday Timor gap oil treaty under discussion in Dili DILI, East Timor, Jan 16 East Timorese and international officials met Sunday to discuss a Timor Gap oil treaty that could be signed by the end of February. The conference at a Dili hotel leased by the United Nations has attracted about 50 geologists, lawyers, engineers, economists and other experts from Australia, the United Nations, Portugal, Mozambique and East Timor. Jim Goodlove is the Darwin area manager for the Phillips Petroleum company. JIM GOODLOVE: Needless to say, there is - there are substantial resources out there and there are indeed substantial revenues to be shared between the contracting states. Let me do say that we have discussed the revenue potential of our project with Australia, the Timorese and the UN, so they are aware of the general magnitude of the revenues that they might expect. GEOFF THOMPSON: Would it be fair to say that there would be very few other small half-island states with less than 900,000 people that would have access to the sorts of revenues that will be coming from the Gap? JIM GOODLOVE: Well, obviously we think the Gap will provide a significant revenue stream to the new nation of East Timor. Now, how that relates to other nations of their size, it's really - I can't say, but we do think this will have a very material and a very beneficial effect to East Timor when it becomes independent. GEOFF THOMPSON: I know you said you don't discuss revenues, but I understand that in the conference the figure of $800 million over 20 years coming back to East Timor was mentioned. JIM GOODLOVE: I don't recall that number. I won't - just do not comment on revenue potential. GEOFF THOMPSON: Is that wrong? JIM GOODLOVE: I do not comment on revenue potential. The people who need to know, know.
