The MCGRIFFS are first found in Pennsylvania in 1743 and later immigrated to the Preble and Darke Counties in Ohio, then to Northwest Oklahoma. There is a tradition that the MCGRIFFS came from Ireland, but that link has never been proved, even though nearly every line of MCGRIFFS in the US, claims to have that origin. The GRAYS were from Scotland and migrated first to Ontario, Canada, then to South Dakota, later to Northwest Oklahoma. They intermarried with the MCDOUGAL, MCKELLAR families The SNYDERS were known to be in Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War, then migrated to Scioto Valley, Ohio, and later to eastern Kansas. The origin of these SNYDERS has not been established. The RALL/ROLL family was originally from Holland and were the earliest settlers in New Jersey and Long Island and Staten Island, NY. The HAILSTONES and FUHRIMANS were both very early Mormon families, arriving in the US about the 1860s.The HAILSTONES originated in Wiltshire, England, while the FUHRIMANS came from Berne, Switzerland. I am researching the following surnames plus many others:HAILSTONE, GORDON, FUHRIMAN, CAMBPELL, MCGRIFF, SCHOONOVER, VANSCHOYCK, GRAY, MCKELLAR, MCDOUGALL, RALL/ROLL, DUNHAM, HARLAND, WATT, SNYDER, GALFORD. | Sherrel Hailstone Home Page Updated July 19, 2009 |
