BENJAMIN CARVER
Benjamin Carver was Gelene Greenhaw Hamm's Great Grandfather on her mother's side of the family. He was born in 1845 in Carter County, Tennessee and died in May, 1927.His father, John Carver, was born in North Carolina.John Carver's father was Cornelius Carver. The Carver family in these areas were wealthy plantation owners.
Benjamin Carver married Elisabeth Lovelady and had the following children:
--Pembrooke Timsley Carver, b. 7-31-1876, d. 6-21-1936, m. Sarah Rosa Owens
--Lon Carver b.? d.?
--Miranda Carver, b.? d.? m. ?Aaron
Benjamin and Elisabeth moved to Arkansas in approximately 1885.They originally settled land near Hasty, Arkansas.
Newton County property records show the following for Benjamin Carver:
CARVERBENJAMIN2916N19W01897/02/10
CARVERBENJAMIN2916N19W01897/02/10
CARVERBENJAMIN3216N19W1601897/02/10
The Census Records I have reviewed don't necessarily verify the above information. The earliest census entry I have located which could be this line of Carvers is John Carver, who appears in the 1810 Census Records in Person County, North Carolina, which is geographically close to all the counties in North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama where Gelene's ancestors came from. This same John Carver is also in the 1820 Census Records for Person County, North Carolina. In 1830, there is also an entry for John N. Carver in Caswell County, North Carolina, which may also be our family because Aunt Louise thought that Benjamin's father was named John Carver.
The only Lovelady's I have thus far located in my census research were all in Smith County, Dickson County, Overton County or Lincoln County, Tennessee in the 1820 Census:Asa, James, John, Jane, Jesse, and Thomas.I do not know if any of these are the individuals is related to Elizabeth Lovelady, Benjamin's wife.
The 1830 Census shows a Benjamin Carver in Caswell, North Carolina and a Benjamin Carver in Carter County, Tennessee. The Carter County, Tennessee entry appears to be our Benjamin, but the actual Census records from this Census lead me to believe that this could not be the father of P.T.
