38.JesseThomasTATE, born in TN.He married 39. IsabelleBOGUIR (or SAPP). 39.IsabelleBOGUIR (or SAPP), born in NC. Notes for Jesse Thomas TATE: The following is from Jimmie Kay Maples: The Tate surname may have been devired from the Old English root word "Tata" meaning "cheerful man" (Rule & Hammond, 1977,). This surname can also be spelled Tait. (Jimmie Kay Maples) This family is believed to be English but it is possible that this is incorrect. The earliest known ansector of this Tate family line was Jessie Thomas Tate born between 1780 and 1800. The parents of Jessie Thomas Tate are unknown. Jessie Thomas married Isabell (maiden name unknown). The death certificate of their daughter, Ann Catherine Tate, has her mother maiden name; however, since it was over written, it cannot be determined what the correct spelling is. This researcher has asked several people what her maiden name was but no one now knows. One person says it spells Harp but most of the other people says it is defiently Sapp but to me it looks more like Sarp, which doesn't make since to me. Jessie Thomas and Isabell are the great-great-grandparents of this researcher. The children of Jessie Thomas and Isabell are not definitely known; however, it appears that they had at least five children. Martha Jane Tate, Ann Catherine Tate, Joseph Tate, Nancy C. M. Tate, and Benjamin Tate. (Jimmie Kay Maples) Tate, Jesse, age 47, born abt. 1814, Pvt/Cpl., Company G, enlisted 8 Oct 1861 at Tarrant, Hopkins County, Texas 9th Texas Infantry Confederate States Army Roster I am a gggreat grand daughter of Jesse Thomas Tate and I think that he is a decendent of James Tate that came to America in 1635 or Thomas Tate that also came in 1635 aboard the Globe. James came on the Ann & Elizabeth. I have not been able to connect him to either of these men. Decendents of James 1: b. 1618 in England came to America in 1635 James II: b. 1638 in York County, Virginia. James III: b. 1662 in Virginia. Children of James III William b.1702, John b. 1687, Mary b. 1694, Ann b. 1688, Robert b.1691, Upham b. 1700, James b. 1698, Sarah. All of these sons had many children and decendents. I have not been able to connect to any of them. They had names so similar to the names of my Tate family though. (Jo A. Tate Null) Children of Jesse TATE and Isabelle BOGUIR (or SAPP) are:
