Notes for Sarah Waldman:
Sara Waldman and her sons left Russia in 1919 illegally and crossed the border into Rumania where they were helped by HIAS.Sarah and her sons arrived in New York on November 27, 1921 on the SS Lapland sailing from Antwerp.
She was 36 years old.She was with her 3 boys, Abraham,15, Jankel 13 and Leibishch 10.They all read Hebrew. She had $100.00 on her.
They went to stay with her brother in law Charles Siegel, 42 Bleecker Ave, New York. She was wonderful until she got sick.Jack Simes would take Abe, Lou and Sylvia to visit her.He brought lunch for her and we had a picnic that Sylvia has never forgotten.Looking back, if she were alive today, she would be given medicine and probably be functioning. It is very sad for me that she was shut away for so many years. She was good, kind and very intelligent. She was reading a Jewish newspaper at the hospital. She was never told that Jack had died. She lived in Proskorov, Ukraine, or Proskurow, Russia 171.3 wsw of Kiev.
