Notes for Guy Claude Hendrix:
Guy Claude Hendrix was the oldest child of George Washington Hendrix and Martha Alice Walling. He
was born near the community of Thornton in the southern part of Limestone Co., Tex. on 8 Dec. 1882. He
grew up in the Thornton area and is shown on the 1900 Census of Limestone Co. (Fam.#74-74, Thornton,
Prect. 8) with the rest of his family. The 1900 Census of McLennan Co., Tex. shows that he is the son of
George W. Hendrix. His death certificate (information supplied by his wife Mary) strongly supports the
conclusion that his mother was Martha Alice (Walling) Hendrix. The family moved to Mart, Tex. about
1905 following the death of Guy's mother in 1899.
Guy and Mary met at the Opera House/Theater in Mart where Guy's sister Grace played the organ. They
were married on 17 May 1906 in Mart, Tex.The family is shown on the 1910 Census of McLennan Co.
(Fam.# 305-326, Mart, Prect. 2) living on North Carpenter Street. During this period of time, Guy helped
his father George with his ice cream and oyster parlor in Mart and he also delivered ice in that town. They lived in Mart until about 1915 when they moved to a 100 acre farm given to them by Mary's father just west of Horn Hill. Farming did not prove successful for them and three years later they moved back to Mart. In the summer of 1919, the family moved to east Waco where Guy's father George had bought the K-T (King's Trail) gasoline station at the corner of Peach and Elm Streets. Guy eventually took over the ownership of this station. Following A. J. Oliver's death in 1922, they moved back to the farm for a short time, but soon afterward returned to Waco.
The family moved to Ft. Worth in the fall of 1925, but then returned to Waco before the end of the year
because Guy was in bad health. The family returned to Ft. Worth in 1928 and lived on Jefferson St. on the south side of the city before moving to the east side (Meadowbrook Dr. and Oakland Blvd.) where Guy and his sons Guy, Jr. and Jack continued to drive truck routes with Dr. Pepper Co. They later moved to 2937 Wilkinson on the east side of Ft. Worth where they lived until Guy died in 1941. He was a member of the Meadowbrook Methodist Church and the Polytechnic Masonic Lodge #925. He is buried in the Rose Hill Cem. on the east side of Ft. Worth.

Mary attended school at Ben Hur and Groesbeck and also went to Baylor University for a short time. Following Guy's death, Mary moved to a cabin built for her by her sons at Bud Cross's Boat Camp on Eagle Mountain Lake northwest of Ft. Worth. She lived there until bad health forced her to move to a rest home on Beach St. in Ft. Worth in1958. She lived there until her death in 1977. Notes for Thomas Emmett Williams:
Thomas Emmett Williams was the oldest known child born to Emmett Williams and [ ? ].Emmett Williams may have had an older daughter Maggie A., but this is uncertain at this time.According to information given on his death certificate by his wife, Thomas Emmett Williams was born on 15 Oct. 1883 in Oklahoma. However, the 1900 census shows him to be born in Sep. 1882 in Texas. It is unknown as to who supplied the census information, but it is likely that Thomas Emmett and his oldest known sister Sammy were both born in TX before the family moved to the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, OK probably in 1887 or 1888.The remaining four children born to Emmett and his wife were born in Indian Territory, with the youngest Dewey being born in Apr. 1898.Since she is not shown on the 1900 census, it is likely that Emmett's wife died sometime between 1898 and 1900.The 1900 census shows the family living in the Chickasaw Nation, Pickens Co., OK (Fam. # 1084-1084) with the location being near the Washita River close to the border between what is now Johnston and Marshall counties.Nothing has been found to date concerning Emmett Williams or the rest of his children besides Thomas E. after the 1900 census was taken.
Thomas Emmett Williams and Susan Alice Wiley were married on 12 Oct. 1902 in Vian, Sequoyah Co.,
OK and their marriage certificate lists them both as being residents of Vian.It is unclear why either one of them was in Vian at that time.Other Wiley family members (but probably not Susan's mother) were in
Sequoyah Co. at that time, but Thomas Emmett's presence there is more difficult to explain. It is believed that just before the birth of their first child Bessie, Tom and Susan moved to Joplin, Jasper Co., MO where their son Guy Acey was also born in 1906.They apparently returned to OK soon after that where their next two children (Pearl and Clifford) were born. The family is shown on the 1910 census of Jasper Co., MO (Galena Twp., Joplin, 1723 Ohio Ave., Fam. # 402).Living next door to them at that time was the R. W. Green family (who also had Texas roots). It is believed that the Williams family moved between Missouri and Oklahoma several times before finally settling in the Tulsa area.
Thomas Emmett Williams died on 6 June 1925 at 2009 West Tulsa Ave. in West Tulsa and is buried in the Oaklawn Cem. there. His wife Susan Alice lived with children in Sapulpa before dying there on 23 Sep. 1937.She is buried in the South Heights Cem. in Sapulpa.
Notes for Susan Alice Wiley: Susan Alice Wiley was the seventh of nine children born to John Wiley and Susan Alice Titus. She was born in Jackson Township, Polk Co., Missouri on 12 Feb. 1880 and is shown on the 1880 census as the youngest child in the John Wiley household (Fam. # 32 - 37) in Jackson Twp.John Wiley died before 1900 and Susan Alice (age 20, b: Feb. 1880, MO) is shown on the 1900 census of Lawrence Co., MO (Vineyard Twp., Stotte City) in the household of Susan A. Wiley (widow) (Fam. # 180 -182). |
