My families have resided in western Pennsylvania since early to mid 1800's, they have been concentrated in the counties of Allegheny, Butler, Crawford, Erie, Indiana, Mercer, Venango & Warren. Our search has been centered on the BILL or BILLS family(found under both spellings). Oldest known ancestor is Jesse Bill/Bills b. ca. 1788 in Massachusetts or Connecticut. Two possible sons are Samuel and Catlin, both born in Connecticut. Samuel migrated through New York and settled in Southwest Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania between 1845-1850. We believe they traveled with the Doud, Evans and Childs families. We are searching in Connecticut and New York for siblings and other families of Jesse and Samuel BILL/BILLS. We continue to search out information on George and Ruth Anna (___) MOON, who migrated to Butler County, Pennsylvania about 1805 from either Frederick County, Maryland; Loudoun County or Fauquier County, Virginia. George Moon was last noted to be in Fauquier County, Virginia on the 1799 tax list before he is found in the 1820 Pennsylvania Census, Butler County, Muddycreek Township. George was listed as being born in Pennsylvania in the 1850 census, this is the only document that states his place of birth, so the search is underway in Southeastern Pennsylvania for his family. Regarding the FLAUGH family, oldest known ancestor is Johann Mathias FLACH, who immigrated from Rimhorn, Germany in 1772 and fought in the Revolution under "the Great Washington" which is written on his tombstone. He came west with his four sons: John, George, Jacob, and Samuel about 1802 and settled in Woodcock Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. The Sparks family that I am researching settled in Elisabeth Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania probably about 1760 which at that time had only small settlements surrounding Fort Pitt. The head of the family was Richard Sparks and they settled in what was known as the New Jersey Settlement with the Applegate and Pearce families. Families we are also researching are the families of APPLEGATE, BEERS, BURROWS, CORY, CRAWFORD, CROOKS, DAVIS, DISHINGER, FLAUGH, GILLET, HEAD, HELLYER, HENRY, HINZ, JOHNSTON, LAKE, LAMB, McCREARY, MEYERS, MYERS, PEARCE, SHONTZ, SPARKS, WALTEMIRE, WALTON & WATSON. Also searching for BURROWS & JOHNSTON families in West Virginia & Ohio. If you have any information that you can share, please contact me. Thank you. |
