William/Derrick Dircksen (Hoff) (b. 29 Apr 1685, d. 08 Nov 1746)

William Dircksen Hoff and wife, Elizabeth
William Dircksen Hoff was born circa 1684, the son of Derrick Pauluszen Hoff and Sarah Willemse Yeats. William was a yeoman with considerable property.
20 April 1685 Baptized in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.
1740 Resided at Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey.
30 October 1742 Signed his will at Middletown Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. In it, he named his wife Elizabeth as executor and bequeathed to his son William, daughter Catherine Dorsett, and “three youngest children.” Witnesses were James Mott, Jarrett Wall, and Gershom Walling.
20 November 1746 Will proven.
11 December 1746 Inventory was taken by James Mott and Gisbert Van Brackel and showed an estate worth over £386, including 2 guns and a negro man.
1748 Elizabeth Hoff still lived in Trenton.
date Leonard and his mother advertised some of his father’s estate for sale, but the oldest son, William Hoff Jr., objected to any sale to which he was not a party.
1 July 1758 Elizabeth signed her will.
2 April 1774 Elizabeth’s will was proved in Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
William married Elizabeth, whose last name is not currently known. Elizabeth was born 2 April 1692.
William and Elizabeth were the parents of nine children:
William, born circa 1710, died; married Abigail Walling
Catharine A., baptized 1714, Maidenhead, Hunterdon County, New Jersey; married John Dorsett 1740
Leonard, born 1720/25 in Monmouth County, New Jersey, died 1810 Cocke County, Tennessee; married Elizabeth
Richard, alive in 1758
John W., resided 1758 in Middletown, New Jersey
Sarah; married Mr. Gigre
Hannah, married Mr. Carman
Christian, unmarried in 1758
Elizabeth, unmarried in 1758
William died 8 November 1746. Elizabeth died 17 January 1774. Both she and William are buried in the Dorset Town Cemetery, Holmdel, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
Note: In Elizabeth’s will she listed children William Hoff, Leonard Huff, Richard Huff, John Huff, Catherine Dorsett, Sarah Gigre, Hannah Carman, Christian Huff, and Elizabeth Huff. John, Christian, and Elizabeth Huff were to execute the will. Witnesses to this will were John Smock, Jr; Cornelius Vanderbilt; and John Vanderbilt.
Note 2: The family had property both in Trenton and at another location two miles out of town, as well as a large tract of land on Weycake-Neck where Leonard Hoff lived in 1748.
