| My mother began researching and writing family history books 36 years ago and provided the inspiration for me to carry on her work.She did not have access to the internet and relied on recording interviews with family and friends and collecting and coying photos for her books. After her death I felt the need to continue her work and delve further into my family's history and that of my husbands. Our ancestors came to Australia from many parts of Europe for a variety of reasons.Some because their home country was in a perpetual state of war, some because of the poverty of the country, some just sought the opportunity that Australia offered, and some because they were the younger sons with no family prospects.They left family and friends and travelled thousands of miles across the seas in cramped conditions, bringing a few meagre but cherished posessions.They were courageous and determined individuals who have helped shape who we are today. | "The Family of Diane and Michael Holland of Charam " Updated September 24, 2007 |
