Elizabeth City County Court, 20 January 1831 An order certified which is same as the above of the same date, but further: ''That John Herbert, deceased was a Carpenter and Midshipman in the Safe-guard, in the Virginia State Navy in the Revolutionary War; that the said John Herbert was a brother of Thomas Herbert, deceased who was called "Silver Fist'', from having lost one of his arms and having a silver fixture on its stump; that the said John Herbert entered the service at an early period of the war, and never returned, wherein the order stated that Thomas S. Herbert died without issue, instead of ThomasHerbert, who was usually called "Silver Fist". Copy teste William H. Wilson Clerk.
