20 May, 1831, Elizabeth City County Court, Mary Ann House, being sworn in open court, deposed that she was well ac-quainted with Matthew Lewis, who died leaving three chil-dren; John, Peggy and Thomas. That Peggy married John Peck and died leaving two children; Thomas and Elizabeth Peck; that Elizabeth Peck married John Cunningham; that these are the heirs at law of Matthew Lewis.

20 June 1833, Executive Department, Matthew Lewis is allowed Land Bounty for his services as a Carpenter's Mate in the Virginia State Navy for three years.

20 August 1835, Elizabeth City County, John M. Todd, deputy clerk for Westwood Armistead certified that no will of Matthew Lewis is of record in the office of the county court.
7 August 1835, "We appoint Joseph Segar our attorney to obtain from the Virginia land office warrant due us as heirs of Matthew Lewis, Carpenter's Mate in the Rev. War".
