Notes for Robert Young, Jr.:
Martha Louiza Winn, daughter of Richard and Susan Winn who owned and operated Winn's Ferry on the Chattahoochee River, eloped with Robert Young when she was 13 years old. Robert came calling one night and Martha climbed on the horse behind him and rode away. Three years later, daughter Mary Lavinia Young was born. Martha, at thirteen, was at that age when young girls start having major problems with their mothers. Since her mother was dead, she probably had a double helping of resentment built up against her step-mother, Lucinda Sturivant Young which prompted the elopement.
Robert Young, Jr. is enumerated in the 1840 Hall County, Georgia census as 2 males over twenty under thirty. One was Robert, of course, the other probably his brother Isaac since Robert was designated head of family. Also enumerated were 1 male slave over ten under twenty-four, 2 female slaves under ten and 1 female slaver over twenty-four under thirty-four.
Robert Young and family were living in Hall County, Georgia in October 1850. Brother-in-law Richard W. P. Winn and family were living next door. Living with Robert was his orphaned nephew, Robert Clinton Young, son of brother Richard Young.
R. Young and family were living in the 565th District, Gainsville P. O., Hall County, Georgia in August 1860. He was apparently one of the wealthier men in Hall County with a personal estate of over $27,000 and real estate of $9,300.
4 January 1848. Hall County, Georgia. Estate sale and auction for the estate of Richard Winn (Robert's father-in-law). "Robert Young, Jr., son-in-law, bought the upper part of land of the homeplace and also lower part."
