Chambers Baptist Minister), daughter of David Mercer and Elizabeth Smith.He married (2) Eliza Annetta Neeley Wiard on 04 Mar 1886 in Woodburn, IA, daughter of Samuel Neeley and Margaret E. Atkins.

William Hooker was born to John Hooker (Jr) and Mary Fields Hooker in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Oct. 23, 1841, and died at his daughter's home, Mrs R.D. Young, in Garden Grove, Iowa, Dec 3, 1904, aged sixty tree years, one month, and ten days.He had a brother John III, and sisters Rachael, Harriett, Alvira, Maranda, and Elizabeth.Mr. Hooker lived with his parents in Tuscarawas County until he was fourteen years old (1855) at which time his father died he moved with his mother and sister Harriett to Morgan County, where he lived until 1881 when he moved to Iowa.In Oct 1860 he married Matilda Mercer.In this union were born six children, Mrs. Lillian Young, of Garden Grove, Ia.; Mrs. Idella Carson, of Woodburn, Ia.; Elmer D., Joseph Quincy, and Charles William, the last two of Wyoming, and Alectus Hooker of Lucas, Ia. (two other children believed to have been born, David E., and Mary E.) Mrs. Hooker died Feb. 26, 1876 in Morgan County Ohio of consumption.OnMarch 4, 1886 Mr. Hooker married Eliza A. Wiard.To this union one son was born, Claudius D., 8 Dec. 1889.In 1894 the family moved to Counsil Bluffs, Iowa, but disposed of their interests there and and moved back to Woodburn, Iowa and in 1901 moved to Cody, Wyoming where they entered a homestead on Monument Hill.Mr. Hooker served through the War of the Rebellion.He enlisted in Company E. Second West Virginia cavalry Sept. 1 1861 to serve three years and was discharged Dec. 31 1863 at Charleston, West Virginia.He re enlisted Jan. 1, 1864 at Charleston and was honorably discharged June 30, 1865 at Wheeling, West Virginia.Mr, Hooker together with the men and officers of the Third Division of the Cavalry Corps received from the hand of General G.A. Custer a congratulatory order commending them for faithfulness and efficiency in service.Mr. Hooker was a Faithful member of the M.D. church holding his membership at Woodburn and Council Bluffs.He was converted in a meeting held by Rev. T.J. Aten in the church at Woodburn and lived a devoted Christian life until his death.His earnest prayer for a peaceful hour in which to die was granted and he was at peace with God and Man.Prayer services were conducted at the home in Garden Grove by Rev. Joe Goodsell.The remains were taken to the church at Woodburn where Rev. H.A. Hayes conducted the funeral services.The funeral were largely attended.There was enough old soldiers for pall bearers.His remains were laid in the Woodburn Cemetery.
