Descendents of Charles Hughes (PA, VA, NC, TN, ARK, & TX)Updated January 16, 2010 | |
| This website is created from information gathered by Mike Hughes of Broken Arrow Ranch in Ingram, Texas. The original Hughes ancestor of this family to appear in America was Charles Hughes of Wales who came to the Philadelphia area in 1684 with a group of Quakers. I invested a considerable amount of time and effort to discover the connection between the Hughes family of early East Tennessee (on which there was a considerable amount of information available) and Charles Hughes of Wales. Most of this information was found in the archives of the libraries of Philadelphia. In fact, there are original documents which are the ledgers of the Coventry Forge (just north of Philadelphia) which contain entries of the accounts of Francis Hughes, son of Charles. Some of the links between subsequent generations are not documented by good genealogical data.I am confident that they are family members, but the exact relationship of a few is questionable (for example, son as opposed to nephew). In some of these cases I have linked individuals based upon relationship factors which seem logical.Where this is the case, notes attached to these individuals explain the basis for the connection. The purpose of this site is to share information with others interested in the Hughes and related families. Please contact me if you have information to share. | |
