2.DANIEL2 FURBUSH (WILLIAM1) was born Abt. 1665 in Kittery, York, ME, and died Bef. January 11, 1744/45 in Lebanon, York, ME.He married DOROTHY PRAY 1689 in Kittery, York, ME, daughter of JOHN PRAY and JOANNA DOWMAN.
Notes for DANIEL FURBUSH:
Daniel was the eldest son of William and was born soon after his father came to Kittery. He later witnessed two deeds when his father bought the Whittam land in 1687 and 1688. Daniel inherited the home farm and lived on it all his days. He died before 11 Jan 1745 and his widow was the admininstratrix of his estate. He had given the greater part of his estate to his children some years before.
In later life he became a Quaker and his name is on the list of those allowed in the town in 1734 and also in 1737. His wife was a member of the Berwick Church and all of their children were baptised there. The indians captured Dorothy Furbush and one child in her home in Kittery. They killed and burnt the child. Daniel subsequently bought her back from the indians.
Notes for DOROTHY PRAY:
Dorothy was baptised as an adult in Berwick, 9 Sep 1716. It is not known if she became a Quaker.

Rebecca (Furbush) Gould of Kittery, widow, being weak of body, devises: To sons Daniel Gould (Executor), Benjamin Gould, Samuel Gould, Nathaniel Gould and James Gould. To daughters Sarah Smith and Mary Hanscom. To granddaughters Mary Gould (daughter of Daniel), Rebecca Harrison, Mary Libby and Mary Libby. Probate in Berwick, 4 June 1782. (Maine Probate Abstracts, 13/469) Rebecca and Benjamin had 8 children. |
Notes for BENJAMIN GOOLD: Benjamin was a cordwainer. He was a minor in 1713. He owned a house lot on the Berwick Road in Eliot in 1715. He resided at Goold's Corner on his small farm by 1719. His will dated 20 Feb 1769, Wells, To my wife Rebecca 1/3 etc. To my sons Benjamin Gould, Jr., Daniel Gould, Samuel Gould and James Gould. To my daughters Mary Hanscom and Sarah Smith. Daniel to be executor. Probate on 8 Dec 1781. (Maine Probate Abstracts, 13/433) Benjamin's grandfather was Jarvis Gould, b. abt 1605, England, married abt 1645, Mary ____, d. 27 May 1656, Boston, Suffok, MA.Jarvis immigrated with his wife on the Elizabeth in 1635 to Hingham, MA They had two sons, John and Joseph.John was baptized 30 Aug 1646, Boston, married 21 Aug 1673 in Taunton, MA to Mary Crossman, b. 16 Jul 1655, Taunton, daughter of Robert Crossman and Sarah Kingsbury. |

Notes for JOHN FURBUSH: John was baptized and received into the church at South Berwick, 9 Sep 1721. He was a Lieutenant in 1722 and in 1745 was in Capt. Peter Staple's Company, Louisberg Expedition. Widow Hannah was made administratrix of his estate 5 Jan 1756. She was on tax list of 1760. John lived south of Third Hill near York line. |

Notes for SARAH PREBLE: After William's death Sarah married (2) Samuel Holmes on 8 Dec 1760 at Berwick. He served in Major Cutts company in 1745 and was captured by indians in 1757 at Fort William Henry during the French and Indian War and was subsequently imprisoned in Franch. Estate administrated in 1761. Kittery Records Vol 1, Sarah, wife of Samuel Holmes was administrix. |

Notes for MARY FURBUSH: Mary met with an unfortunate death from the effects of her husband hitting her on the head with an eighteen ounce stone four days before her death. Benjamin was convicted of a crime in connection with the death of his wife and he was charged twenty two shillings and six pence for "instruments of branding" apparently used to mete out his punishment. |
