Notes for Albert Tobitt:
In 1891 their residence was Chekendon, Oxforshire, England
Also in this census it shows they had a Servent. Sarah E. Farr Age 24, single, from Burks Charlton
In 1881 Is shows a visitor Alice Walker and it show Two servent girls Martha and Ann Brown ages 10 and 12 for Servent Domicile work.
In 1901 Census is shows Alice Stemp as Servent 19 years old.
The 1841-1851 Census records Albert’s parents were Westley Tobitt and Ann May-Tobitt Both from Kirdford. It is interesting to note that Westley’s father was John Elliott Tobitt living at Great Slifehurst farm and Ann’s Father was John May living at Little Slifehurst farm.So Albert’s parents were neighbors and became married. ?
The 1871 Census shows Albert and his wife Fanny Pannell-Tobitt living at Wyford Court. (?) And his occupation was Farm Steward.
It is interesting to note that both Albert’s mother (Ann May-Tobitt) and Fanny’s Mother (June Pannell) both were staying at Neals farm.
Along with a servant. Also note the age difference Of Albert (28) and Fanny. (30) ( He married an older woman ?)
The 1873 Birth record for Florence Wyfold Tobitt born in Henley. ( I suspect that this was the first child of Albert’s to be born at Neals Farm and proof of her middle name being Wyfold.)
The 1874 Death record shows that Albert’s wife Fanny Tobitt died in 1874 in Henley. So she must be buried there somewhere Or in Kirdford, her home town. (The close time frame to the birth of Florence, may prove that her death was caused by complications of the birth. Still searching that one.)
The 1881 Census shows Albert has a new wife, Mary Downer-Tobitt, a group of new children and the servants.Note the address is now called “Neals Farm”. Also note Albert (38) and Mary was (26). A 12 year difference.(he went for the younger woman this time ?)
The 1887 death record shows that Albert’s wife Mary Downer-Tobitt died in Henley. So she must be buried there somewhere too or Kirdford. ( Her death coincides with the birth ofEdith May Downer Tobitt. Again, Until I receive the death certificate I can only guess it was due to complications of the birth.)
The 1891 Census shows Albert has a new wife…(Boy he was a busy man. ? )A Mary again, note the age difference. 40 to 48. Only 8 years difference. This Mary is Mary Heard-Tobitt.
The 1901 Census shows Wyford Court now in full Swing. ?Looks like Robert Harmon Hodge had roughly 17 servents.. wow. ?And Albert was still at Neals Farm with Mary Heard-Tobitt and their youngest children.
So from numerous other documents, I have found 12(if not 13) children for Albert and his three wives. They are listed below. And starting with Florence Wyfold Tobitt, I have found that there were 9 children born to Albert while he resided at Neals. Astounding isn’t it.I have ordered their birth certificates from the Britain Archive, but have not received them yet.I will concede that Jane Tobitt born 1867 and Amelia Jane Tobitt born 1871, may in fact, turn out to be the same person, though I have found records that “Jane” died at birth in 1867. (Just one more mystery to untangle)
