I am researching the Iemmallo family from Gasperina, Calabria, Italy. Agostino Iemmallo was born in 1857.He emmigrated from Italy to North Adams, Mass. in 1895.He later changed the family name to Jemmallo, then to Jammallo. He had other siblings along with a younger brother Antonio who I believe moved to Pennsylvania after becoming naturalized in Berkshire County, Mass.Records state Antonio first came to America in 1889 and was naturalized in 1904, although he appeard to have made many trips between Gasperina and North Adams in the years to come.Agostino's wife, Maria Cerullo (later changed to Cirullo) immigrated to the U.S. in 1899 along with their two living children, Guiseppe and Marianna. As far as I can tell, Agostino had come to the U.S. with his brother-in-law Michele Cerullo, also born the same year and town as Agostino. They appeared to live together until both their wives and children could come over together on the same boat 7 years later in 1899. | |
