I've taken the names of his children from a book by Clara Hill "Some Hills of West Virginia"There is no documentation in that book that lists his children thus I have no proof that Benjamin was a son of John.
Micheal Hill says John's father was a Thomas Hill and his mother a Miss Hamlin.
The information I have that I was quoting from, I got from the Culture Center in Charleston, WV back in the 1980's before computers. Also, it was when I first started really seriously getting into genealogy so I did not document as well as I wish I could have. However, after checking in my old folders I found that I got this info from what I believe to be a series of book called "Kith and Kin of Boone County, West Virginia" it is published by the Boone County Genealogical Society in Madison, WV. There are several Volumes and I do not think I wrote down which volume the Hill info came from. A lot of this info was gathered by a man named Sigifus Olafson and his daughter Jean Olafson Harmon. Mr. Olafson has passed away. I do not know about his daughter. This particular information on the Hill family was written by Jean Olafson Harmon and goes from page 125 to 157.....a whole lot of Hill info.
I also have another sheet that is two pages long on the Genealogy of the Hill Family of Boone County, West Virginia. It states that the writer has definite proof that John and Elizabeth Hill moved to Montgomery County, Virginia about 1784 (from PA about 1784) and that several of their children were born in that county whaich ar rhr rime beside its present area, included much of western Virginia as well as several West Virginia counties that border on or lie near the Virginia line. Somewhere between the years 1799 and 1805, they moved to Kanawha County, settling near the Forks of Coal River. John died either in 1809 pr 1810/ The records of Kanawha County show that in 1810 , his widow, Elizabeth Hill, was appointed executrix of his estate, thus indicating that he had died a short time before. The security on her bond was ____ning Manning??), a neighbor, lived on Mannings Branch of Coal River. The wodow, Elizabeth (or Betsy) Hill, married Jacob Du Bois (sometimes called De Boy)on Sep[tember 8, 1812.We have no record of her thereafter. It also states that the list of Hills was compliled almost entirely from US census records and from birth, death, and marriage records of Boone and other counties. It was carried down to about 1870 amd does not show descents born after that date.
I will try to read all my info to refresh my self but as of this moment the only thing I have on Benjamin is that he was a son of John and Elizabeth (Betsy) Hill. I glanced at some census records and saw a few names of their children that I will pass on to you if you like. Maybe if he moved to IN that is why I don't have a lot of info on him from my area. I live just outside Charleston and I have visited old home sites and even thought I don't go to the Cultural Center like I used to (computers!!) I can. I am descentded from a coupld of John and Betsy's children. George Hill b. 1786 in PA m. Elizabeth Nance and George's sister Margaret Hill b. 1795 in Montgomery Co. and m. Vernon Price. I have a feeling that this Benjamin is probably your ancestor. I will be more than happy to share everything. I think I would need to fax or scan it in because there is so much of it. Please let me know if I can be of any further help. My personal e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org.
